Position Overview: The Referral Coordinator will be responsible for managing patient referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers. This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate care while maintaining effective communication between our practice, patients, and external providers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and manage patient referrals to specialists, ensuring accurate and timely submission of referral requests.
- Communicate with patients regarding referral information, appointment scheduling, and follow-up care.
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for referrals.
- Maintain accurate records of referrals, including tracking and documenting patient progress.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure all necessary documentation is complete and accurate for each referral.
- Follow up with specialists and patients to confirm appointments and gather feedback on care received.
- Address any issues or concerns related to the referral process and work towards resolutions.
- Stay informed about insurance policies and referral guidelines to ensure compliance and optimal patient care.
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed to support the smooth operation of the office.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare administration is a plus.
- Previous experience in a referral coordination or similar role in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and referral protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
